In outright disregard to respect for Rule of Law and with contemptuous regard to an Order of a High Court sitting in Delta State, the NBA Caretaker Committee, today July 18th, 2024, held the 2024 NBA-SPIDEL Annual Conference at NBA National Secretariat, Abuja. The theme is Tax, Tariffs And The Taxpayer: Exploring the impact on the public and economy.
John Aikpokpo-Martins Esq., filed the suit Suit No. W/128/2024, on behalf of himself and members of the NBA-SPIDEL Executive Committee, with the exception of any members opposed to the action.
The defendants are Ben Oji, representing himself and members of a purported NBA-SPIDEL caretaker committee, and the Incorporated Trustees of the Nigerian Bar Association.
On July 9th, 2024, Justice Anthony Olotu Akpovi of the Delta State High Court granted an interim injunction restraining the defendants from organizing and holding any conference or conducting elections on behalf of NBA-SPIDEL pending the hearing of the motion on notice for interlocutory injunction. In a bid to vacate the Order and proceed with the Conference, NBA through its Lead Counsel, Mr. Ama Etuwewe SAN filed a Notice of Appeal against the interim order; a motion to stay enforcement of the order; a counter-affidavit in opposition to the motion for interlocutory injunction against the conference, and a counter-affidavit in opposition to the originating summons as well as a written address.
After listening to arguments from Counsel to parties, the parties agreed to consolidate the notice of preliminary objection and the originating summons.

The case was adjourned to 30th July, 2024 for hearing of the substantive originating summons and the preliminary objection.
