Whilst serving as the Special Assistant to Augustine Alegeh SAN, CON, the 27th President of the NBA (2014 – 2016), I had the privilege of working closely with Mazi Afam Osigwe SAN who was the NBA General Secretary at the material time.
I can confirm that Mazi Afam Osigwe SAN played a key role in the numerous laudable initiatives of that administration which include: the introduction of the NBA Stamp & Seal;
Insurance Scheme for Lawyers; the construction & completion of the NBA National Secretariat; improved remittances to Branches and most importantly, the birth of universal suffrage in the NBA which confers on all lawyers the right to vote in the general election of the NBA, amongst several other commendable policies credited to that administration.
Mazi Afam Osigwe’s levelheadedness, diligence and team work ensured that these policies were well executed and implemented for the overall benefit of lawyers.Mazi Afam Osigwe, as General Secretary of the NBA, demonstrated capacity, diligence and revolutionized the NBA Secretariat. He ensured that the Secretariat became purpose driven, effective, functional and that the Secretariat Staff were adequately trained to cater to the needs of lawyers.
Mazi Afam Osigwe is a charismatic leader, a moulder of men, a team player, a lawyer’s lawyer and an overall good man. As Chairman of NBA Abuja Branch (2012 – 2014), he performed excellently, promoted inclusivity in branch activities, prioritized the welfare of young lawyers, as well as implemented several laudable reforms in the Abuja Branch of the NBA.
I wholeheartedly endorse Mazi Afam Osigwe SAN’s aspiration to lead the NBA at this time as he best understands the challenges faced by the NBA and will ensure that the NBA remains the voice of the voiceless and the Chief Promoter of the Rule of Law in Nigeria. His manifesto is well articulated and holds the key to an improved NBA.
I urge and enjoin all lawyers to vote for Mazi Afam Osigwe SAN as the President of the NBA in the next general elections of the NBA scheduled on Saturday, 20th July, 2024, and support his vision of a Proactive, Fearless and Reinvigorated Bar Association which will prioritize the welfare of lawyers.•Kelechi Onwuegbuchulem, Esq.
