Ahead of today’s meeting of NBA Kaduna, a letter reiterating the adoption of Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, was dropped in the official WhatsApp of NBA at wee hours of this morning.
It reads;
RE: ADOPTION OF A PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE FOR THE NBA ELECTION BY THE NBA KADUNA. SETTING THE RECORDS STRAIGHT FOR POSTERITY
We the undersigned make bold to say that posterity witl not judge us right if we do not set the records straight to disabuse the minds of our innocent branch members and even non-members alike by correcting the wrong and faise information contained in the undated letter authored by the Chairman of NBA.
Kaduna Branch regarding the adoption of Afam Osigwe, SAN at the stakeholders meeting convened by the Chairman of the NBA Kaduna Branch on the 24th day of June 2024 which was held at the Guest House of Muhammad Sani Katu, SAN between the hours of 5pm – 11pm.
The following were the sequence of events that transpired leading to the adoption of Afam Osigwe, SAN at the meeting of the stakeholders convened by the Chairman for that and other purpose:
On the night of Sunday the 23rd June 2024, the Chairman in his own. wisdom kick started the process of convening a stakeholders meeting of the Branch by sending the stakeholders present at that meeting and others who could not make it a private SMS text message inviting them for a meeting of the stakeholders of the Branch at the Guest House of Muhammad Sani Katu, SAN to hold on 24th June, 2024 at 5pm.
The following people were in attendance at that meeting:
• Godwin Ochai, Esq. (Branch Chairman)
•Mrs. Zainab Aminu Garba, Esq. (Branch Vice Chairperson).
•D.D Tabakwot, Esq. (Branch Treasurer). •Abdullahi Alfa Mohammed, Esq. (Branch Publicity Secretary).

•Aisha Abdu Muhammed, Esq. (FIDA Chairperson of Kaduna Branch).
•Funke Bamikole, Esq. (FIDA Secretaryof Kaduna Branch) Oguguo Anoruo-Enujekwu, Esq. (Former Branch Officer).
•Nonye Obi, Esq. (Former Branch Officer)
•Ishaya Y. Warkani, Esq. (YLF Chair of the Branch)
•Muhammad kabir Abdullahi, Esq. (Former YLF Chairman).
•S.S Idris, Esq. (Former YLF Chairman).
•H.B Dembo, Esq. (Former YLF Chairman)At the said meeting, apologies were given for the absence of M.I Abubakar, Esq. (Former Chairman), Sherrif Y. Ndasule, Esq. (Former Chairman), M.T Mohammed, Esq. (Former Chairman) and A.A Masanawa, Esq. (MULAN Chairman) by their various proxies.
The Chairman gave the welcome address and introduced two major issues for discussion viz: the candidacy of Mrs. Zainab Aminu Garba, Esq. at the national elections, and the consideration for possible adoption of one among the 3 Presidential candidates for the national elections, in tine with the tradition/practice of the Branch sanctioned by a resolution of the general meeting of the branch when the issue was table for discussion a little over a year ago.
The meeting unanimously adopted Mrs. Zainab Aminu Garba, Esq. as its candidate for the position of 3rd Vice president and went further to create 3 subcommittees of Finance, Mobilization and Media/Publicity, to mobilize funds and drive her campaign as a Branch project. After deliberating the first issue discussed which had to do with the adoption of Mrs. Zainab Aminu Garba, Esq. which was unanimous, the next major issue discussed was the consideration of one amongst the 3 Presidential candidates for possible adoption at the meeting.
The Chairman x-rayed all the 3 presidential candidates, although his comments on Afam Osigwe, SAN was nothing short of condemnation based on personal vendetta that he had to be reminded that the meeting was not supposed to settle personal scores, and he concluded by backing Chukwuka Ikwuazom, SAN as his preferred choice for consideration.
He then informed the meeting that Yunus Ustaz Usman, SAN (Leader of the Branch) had instructed him to communicate that Chukwuka Ikwuazom, SAN is his preferred choice for adoption.
Discussions on the 3 candidates were robust, wherein the Chairman and Yunus Ustaz Usman, SAN favoured Chukwuka Ikwuazom, SAN. laris Mohammed, Esq. and Kate Ishu, Esq. favoured Tobenna Erojikwe, Esq. for adoption. Muhammad Sani Katu, SAN, Sule Shu’aibu, SAN, S.A Audu, Esq.. B.L Aliyu, Esq., Ray Emeto, Esq., Nonye Obi, Esq., D.D Tabakwot, Esq.
Muhammad Kabir Abdullahi, Esq., and Ishaya Yaro Warkani, Esq, all spoke in favour of adoption of Afam Osigwe, SAN. Mike Nwakanma, Esq. and Ifeanyi Egbuna, Esq. opined that they do not have a preferred choice., Alh. Ibrahim Dantsoho, Esq.. Zainab Garba Aminu, Esq.. Aisha Abdu Muhammed, Esq., and Funke Bamikole, Esq. left in the middle of discussions at the meeting to attend to other individual personal exigencies. O.J Opawale, Esq. spoke instead that the meeting should be adjourned because it was getting late. Oguguo Anoruo-Enujekwu, Esq. Idris, Esq., H.B Dembo, Esq. and Ugo Sanctus Ugo, Esq. could not speak on the issue due to paucity of time, however their position of preference of candidate had already been earlier known.
Amongst those who could not talk on the issue, Oguguo Anoruo-Enujekwu, Esq.’s preference was Chukwuka Ikwuazom, SAN, while Afam Osigwe, SAN was the preferred choice of the remaining three (S. Idris, Esq., H.B Dembo, Esq. and Ugo Sanctus Ugo, Esq.).
Festus O. Okoye, Esq. played an advisory role and moderated the meeting in the physical absence of the Leader on the instructions of the Chairman, and therefore remained neutral. It was clear from the robust deliberations depicted above, those in favour of Afam Osigwe, SAN were in the majority at the meeting, consequently the meeting went ahead to adopt Afam Osigwe, SAN as the preferred candidate for the Branch, and the Chairman was saddled with the responsibility of notifying the membership of the Branch immediately, via the Branch official WhatsApp group and subsequently presenting same before the General Meeting of the Branch for ratification or otherwise, as is the practice of the Branch which the members generally voted to retain, which the Chairman fail to do thereby putting the members in an embarrassing situation of learning about such an important and sensitive development from sources and medium outside the Branch like a rumor. It is quite disturbing and call for an integrity check for the Chairman to initiate and convene a meeting, exclusively determine the invitees and send out invitations, determine the venue and timing, participate in the meeting and making his preference known and turn around to sign an undated publication to claim that there was no meeting of the Branch where any candidate was adopted,
If we may ask, at what meeting was Mrs. Zainab Aminu Garba, Esq. (his Vice) adopted as the candidate of the Branch for the position of 3rd National Vice President? Curiously, FIDA Kaduna Branch wrote a letter to the Chairman dated the 26th June 2024 seeking for a review of the adoption made in the meeting convened which both signatories to the FIDA letter attended and left half way.
If the Chairman wants the public to believe that there was no meeting and adoption which according to him is purported, the question then will be what meeting and adoption was FIDA making reference to in their letter attached herein under reference? Your guess is as good as. ours.
It appears now very clear that the reason behind the undated letter from the Chairman, and co-signed by Muhammad Sani Katu, SAN and Yunus Ustaz, SAN which he posted in the Branch WhatsApp group in the morning of the 28th day of June 2024 was because the candidate the Chairman had hoped to be adopted was defeated by the majority in that meeting.
Or could it be that the Chairman was just bent on using his position to settle some personal grievances?Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen, above are the true reflections of what transpired leading to the adoption (or “purported adoption” as our Chairman will prefer to call it) of a presidential candidate in the NBA national elections by Kaduna Branch. We leave you to be the judges.
Long Live NBA Kaduna Branch!
Long Live NBA!
Long Live Kaduna State!
Long Live the Federal Republic of Nigeria!
