DEMANDS FOR RELEASE OF NOTICE OF ELECTION CUM ELECTORAL GUIDELINES FOR THE 2025 FEDERAL CAPITAL TERRITORY AREA COUNCIL ELECTION.
The above subject matters refers.
We are solicitors to Mrs. Fatima Abubakar of Jiwa Court Road, Jiwa Abuja, hereinafter refers to as our client and on whose instruction we write to you.
We have the authority of our client to demand from you and your office to release a Notice of Election for the 2025 Federal Capital Territory Area Council Election”
It will interest you to note that the current Administration of Area council chairmen and the councillors of the six (6) Area council in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, were elected on the 12th day of February, 2022 and on a term of three years tenure Pursuant to Section 113 of the Electoral Act 2010 (As Amended) which was the extent electoral law as at the date extent electoral law as at the date of the conduct of the said election and the return of current chairman, and councillors of the Area councils.Furthermore, you will recall that Area council chairman and the councillors of the six (6) Area Councils of the Federal capital Territory, Abuja who were sworn in June 2012.
Flowing from Above Sir, we most humbly urge you to rely on Section 28(1) (a) of the Electoral Act, 2022 which empowered you and the commission to release “Notice of Election not later than 360 days before the day scheduled for holding of an election under the 2022 Electoral Act.
We therefore on the instruction of our client that since the three years term of the current chairman and councillors will  expire in June 2025, our client therefore demand from you and your office to kindly release or cause to be release “Notice of Election for the 2025 Federal Capital Territory Area Councils election forth with in line with Section 28(1) as of the Electoral Act, 2022 so that the commission will not plunge the said council into electoral crises as the commission has only two months to carry this duty.TAKE NOTICE that in the event that you fail to heed to our demand, we shall resort to legal action to compel you and your office to adhere to the said provision of the Electoral Act and that this letter is predicated on the aspiration of our client who is aspiring for the position of councillor, Jiwa ward in Abuja Municipal Area counsel of FCT.
Thanks for anticipated adherences to constitutional responsibilities in resolving this Electoral crisis in the Federal Capital Territory.
