An Edo based legal practitioner, Bright Luobe, Esq., has appealed to Godwin Obaseki, the Executive Government of Edo State, to swear in 8 legal practitioners screened, cleared and presented by Edo State Judicial Council since June 2023.
The letter reads;
PASSIONATE APPEAL TO YOUR EXCELLENCY FOR THE SWEARING IN OF EIGHT (8) JUDGES DESIGNATE RECOMMENDED FOR APPOINTMENT BY THE NATIONAL JUDICIAL COUNCIL SINCE THE 16TH DAY OF JUNE, 2023.
The above subject matter refers.
This appeal is further to the LETTER OF SPECIAL APPRECIATION, dated 29th Jan, 2024, written to your good offices by my very well respected senior and revered SILK, OLAYIWOLA AFOLABI (SAN): Pursuant to the provisions of SECTION 271 (1) & (2) of the 1999 CONSTITUTION OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA, AS AMENDED, the NATIONAL JUDICIAL COUNCIL has since the 16’* DAY OF JUNE, 2023, recommended the under listed persons for appointment into the office of judge of the Edo State High Court:
i.OVENSERI OTAMERE.
ii.OBAYUWANA .O MATHIAS.
iii. EDOGHOGHO EBOIGBE.
iv. OJO MAUREEN OSA.
v. BRIGHT ERAZE ONIHA.
vi. EHINON ANTHONY OKOH.
vii. GODWIN .J OKUNDAMIYA.
viii. OSAYENDE I AWAWU
Your Excellency is yet to exercise your constitutional powers in the appointment and swearing in of the aforementioned persons.
It is important to inform you sir, that the Edo State judiciary as presently constituted is in dire need of more judges, particularly as judges are currently over worked and lawyers to the consternation of their clients have their cases listed two or three times a year.
This is now so because the dockets of our courts are cram-full with cases. 
Your Excellency sir, your refusal and/or failure to swear in the aforementioned persons have no doubt become a hindrance in the judicial service delivery system of Edo State.
Like many Edolites, I have known you to be a staunch proponent of the Rule of Law and protector of the rights of all Edolites and by extension Nigerians, it therefore behooves on you, Your Excellency to immediately swear in the aforementioned persons who have been without any reasonable and/or meaningful source of income and livelihood since the 16 day of June, 2023.
Your Excellency Sir, as we approach the twilights of your second term as Executive Governor of Edo State, it is the desire of your people to see that their friends, relatives, husbands, fathers, wives, who have been recommended for appointment as judges are sworn in by you particularly as we approach another electioneering season.
Sequel to the above, it is only legal, fair, equitable and just to grant my appeal, as your positive disposition towards my appeal will greatly advance the peace, unity and progress our dear state has been enjoying since your ascension to office.
I thank you sincerely for your attention to this matter, while I solicit your kind consideration and timeous response to this appeal.
