To stop lawyers from being kidnapped, NBA should call on its members to stop defending any person, suspected of being a kidnapper, facing trial in any court.
To stop lawyers from being kidnapped, NBA should call on all prosecutors, who are lawyers, to stop the prosecution of any suspect, charged with offenses bothering on kidnapping.
These may be drastic but drastic situation, calls for outside the box drastic measures.
Criminals, have underground communication network.
Once it fizzles through their underworld that lawyers have refused to defend anyone suspected of kidnapping because lawyers are being kidnapped, I assure you, they will think twice before kidnapping a lawyer. If they mistakenly kidnap a lawyer and he identifies himself as a lawyer, I assure you, he will be released by his abductors.
ON POLICE BRUTALITY AGAINST LAWYERS.
I salute the courage of the NBA Branches in Lagos on the successful staging of a protest march against policy brutality mated out to colleagues in the course of their professional duties.
Laudable as this is, NBA should further amplify it by; Making sure the Human Right Committees of local NBA Branches, periodically interface with Human Right Desks in Police Stations within their jurisdiction.
NBA should sue the Police and get judicial pronouncement to the effect that all civil matters reported to the Police MUST go through the Human Right desk before coming to court.
Yes. We can compel this government to take a stand against kidnapping.
It is the citizens that move the government, no matter how fraudulently it came into power.
If the citizens keep quiet, the Gov assumes that it has gotten legitimacy and acceptance from the citizens!
