According to a source, FIFA had requested that the footage of the World Cup qualifying match between Super Eagles of Nigeria and Black Stars of Ghana be made available to it.
This is against the backdrop of conflicting reports of the cause of death of Joseph Kabungo, the Zambian doctor that died in Abuja.
One report had it that he was beaten by the mob who stormed the stadium; another claimed he was stumped during the stampede while another said he slumped and died without any contact by the mob nor was the mob close to where he was.
Our source in NFF, said there is no footage of the incident. That the vandals vandalized everything and all that NFF can release is the footage of the match while in progress and not the riotous conduct of the fans.
A security guard attached to the stadium we spoke to, said that the CCTV installed in and around the stadium are not functional. He debunked the NFF position that the mob destroyed them. “Oga, these things no de work since. No be today them spoil.”
Most Nigerians we spoke with, are happy that Nigeria did not qualify for the World Cup. They pray that FIFA bans Nigeria from participating in two World Cup qualifying circles.
They blame Buhari’s bad luck for the failure of Nigeria to excel in any major sporting event since 2015 Buhari came to power.
Micheal said, how do we expect the god of soccer to favor Super Eagles when blood of innocent Nigerians are being wasted daily, without the government arresting the situation.
