The reason why the Minister of FCT sacked Wadata Bodinga as Director, Directorate of Road Traffic Services (DRTS), popularly known as VIO and replaced him with a retired Director of DSS, Abdulateef Bello are manifesting.
We are reliably informed that, Abdulateef Bello was appointed to rev VIO into applying iron fist on any traffic violator in Abuja, especially Okada riders.
Our source reveals that the minister is not happy with the resurgence of Okada riders in AMAC after their ban. Okada in parts of AMAC were banned but made bold come back during the EndSARS protests.
He is particularly angered with the Okada riders at Lugbe stretch of the airport road.
The minister and Abuja VIPs, consider these Okada an eyesore and a dent on the beautiful image, they are portraying to foreigners coming into Nigeria for the first time, through Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
To send reverberating signal, Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB), the Police, DSS, Correctional Centre, Army that make up Abuja task force led by VIO, are set to crush over motorcycles it confiscated, once the number reaches 1,500.
The newly appointed Director while visiting DRTs Taskforce office in Wuye, said, “…they should stay within the confined areas such as estates and market places, not to approach the high ways, so all those that contravene will face this particular punishment of having their bikes crushed”.
Bello further said that government, will not rest, until the Abuja, is free from Okada which he insists constitute a nuisance and a security threat.
We are also informed that this Taskforce, had been giving a marching order, to make sure there is no obstruction of traffic this week leading to APC national convention.
