At the heat of the struggle to abolish the infamous, oppressive park and pay illegal policy in FCT Abuja, we ran into Ogwu Onoja SAN.
We had laid a mini civil disobedience at the NYSC entrance into Tigris Crescent Maitama, forcing the traffic to slow and a fine dressed gentleman coming from court with his team of lawyers, stopped and offered us moral and legal support, stood with us briefly before leaving.
On inquiring who was this senior lawyer that stood to show solidarity, when even junior lawyers avoided us. We were told that he is Onoja SAN.
At the peak of park and pay madness, they were clamping cars even when the car has not exceeded the minutes it had paid for or when the owner of the car has change with the agent of operators of park and pay. It was one of these unfair treatment meted out to us that we were peacefully protesting when the learned silk met us.
With this his singular act of encouragement, we were emboldened and continued the protest here and there, until a judicial pronouncement by Justice Peter Affen of the High Court, Apo in 2014, made park and pay illegal and it was stopped immediately. The rest they say, is history.
